JUST DISCOVERED THE STEINWAY MAURICE GAVE ME A FEW YEARS AGO is an "A3"6'4 3/4' Created in 1913!!!!
In perusing information about Steinways, my FAVORITE Piano manufacturer {US made in Astoria LI] last night, I remeasured my second piano.... Turns out it is NOT an "M" but a very rare "A3" and weighs in at 645 pounds.... Due to being made of solid Ebony. I am so proud of my Steinways, and thankful to my Son.
My other Steinway at one time belonged tomy Dear Friend, the great Concert Pianist William Kapell, and upon his untimely tragic death in a commercial airliner crash returning from a stopover in Hawaii after his exhausting tour in Australia... The airliner plowed into a mountainside near Half Moon Bay just a few miles from the San Fransisco Airport....
I wound up with his piano, rather one of his pianos... He had three in his Studio [actually his brownstone home he shared with Mama and Papa Kapell] on east 94th Street... Two were Concert "D"s 8'11" the third and mine is a Concert "B" 6'11"... with very Stiff action. And of course this is my preferred piano BECAUSE of the very stiff action... translating to more powerful hands. Also, as it turns out translating to Dupuytrens syndrome, a thickening of the tendons in the hands, due to extensive practice through the years... Though general MDs will encourage you to have surgery, you will be incapacitated for a year, and will NEVER play again because of the scar tissue in the palms in those tendons. It is treated be a Chirohealer who uses the Graston Tecnic,thus releasing the tangled tendons, rendering my hands very free and excellent tecnic wise. Thank you Dr. David Simmons of Arcadia...
And as you see... my Kapell piano has a excellent companion and almost the same size! I thank Maurice so much for this treasure.
And YES YES YES I practice Piano tecnic every day.. sometimes playing well into the late night. I rotate things.... one day are the Brahms 51 exerscises as chosen for me by my Great Master in NY Robert Goldsand.... He chose perhaps 45 of those 51.... Then I do all scales in DOUBLE Thirds.... the Liszt fingerings.
You see Mr Goldsand Studied with Moritz Rosenthal, who was a favored pupil of Franz Liszt! I am proud of studying with Goldsand, as I have an almost direct lineage to Liszt's approach to tecnic! The next Day, I delve into the Lechetizsky Method, and afterward, several Chopin Etudes,sometimes changing their keys and jazz repertoire and changes. The Third Day will be classical repertoire and things my group will use in concert, plus a return to intense scales in double thirds, and sixths.
From time to time I take a bit of time away from my Steinways...
My whole life has been devoted to music. I am truly blessed to have found what I really loved early in life! Hugs, I hope YOU are so blessed, too, and IN the ARTS! KissKiss

Just got a call from Mo, and he asked me to attend a concert tomorrow of the Pasadena symphony[CA] at the Ambassador Auditorium... Of course I said YES.... there is the Korngold Violin Concerto AND the Tschaikowsky 5th Symphony Fantastic, of course I am happy to hear that great music in that great Concert Hall...
When I played Bass Mo and I played in a couple of Orchestras together[ He is a Cellist] and We played in the Garner ted Armstrong Orchestra AND the Symphonny of the Verdugos, many gorgeous concerts there.... and Mo and Lynn now proudly perform with them regularay, AND the Pasadene Pops! So an practicing tonight so I can go with a clear conscience! And Dinner with Myrna Daniels, the editor of the LA Jazz Scene!!!! AND yes she ran the notice of our next concert in the Calendar section! [Our November7th Concert] of the SUEZENNE FORDHAM CHAMBER JAZZ LA "5th Stream" SERIES...as noted in other blogs on this page!!!
Great concert tomorrow invited by Mo and klynn, Korngold Violin Concerto and the Tschaikowsky 5th at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena ''' A great and beautiful all WOOD Auritorium! Really stunning!
Today was a fun day.... Trader Joe's new store opening in Monyrose.... ANd then the PETCO to but a sweater for Ursa to wear under her new quilted coat[Layering] She now stsys in the midsection of the house which has NO windows, thanks to the alcoholic Daum, and that part of the house is very cold! CREEP! I despise alcoholics.... My mother killed herself with alcohol... A stunningly beautiful woman drank herself to death, and thrust a lifetime of sorrow on her family for doing this.... I still have endless pain from this.... and now am encumbered with "another booze hound" the only way I survive is to compartmentalise and concentrate on the beautiful thinges in my life... my Son, <my horses my music and my players, and my little Adopted 10 year old Papilion! Oh, but you are surely not intrested in this?
azotedoToday was a perfect Bugger of a day!!! I had wonderful tickets from Maurice to hear a splendid concert at the Ambassador Audutorium AND of course couldnt take my 70 VW Bus which is in the shop, AND my 72 Bug developed a marvelous sudden downshifting of gears yesterday, AND the Red Bugs keys have been missing for three months, AND so to take the final bug HahHah NO it's battery was kaput.... no start... called Lynn to let them know i wouldnt bre there.... she saod go ahead and call AAA.... so they got it started and on my way to the concert the car stopped totally out of gas due to the gauge malfunctioning... so AAA again.... by that time I KNEW this was a sign that I was NOT intended to go to that concert!!! DradX one thousand... AND it was too late to hear the korngold Violin concerto 1 Also couldn't gp tto the Barn to move my horses for the horse show tomorrow, too!!!
Discovered the Concert Dates for Suezenne fordham Chamber JazzLA sre probably incorrect!!! I will check with the venue tomorrow!!! Sorry!!! EEeeekkk!

Suezenne Fordham I don't envy anyone their success or their money... I chose my lifepath of Music... I've had big success in NY and more humble stuff out here, that didn't lead to riches, but lead to immense joy when I perform, even at my time of life. If I was a CEO I would not have had the time to be a Mom, and I would have awakened to have missed my Son's childhood! He Toured with me and my group, and attended many different schools on the road, and I hauled us back to NY And really dug in with terrific success, playing great Park Avenue places... But my choices were-are mine ... nothing more to say... If you're one of the 1% Great!!! I am happy you can hire wonderful people and pay them nicely... I revel when you are good bosses, and I don't cry because you are richer than I am... I am greatly blessed and I have "Enough".... emotionally

Can't sleep!!! Worried sick about my adopted little 10 year old Papillion, who has been constipated for a couple days, Thought he was clogged needing a haircut.... but he still cannot Pooh! It is so sad , he eighs only 5 pounds! And the vet wont be in til tomorrow morning, and emergency rooms are expensive and they dont really do anything anyway, but wait for you to pick them up to take to the regular vet! ...
OK, it was THE thing to do to take Little Piccolino to the vet this Morning... The Genteel, knowledgable and kind Dr. Schwartz diagnosed him with an abcess on one pf his Anal Glands OWIE!! I left him at the Vet's and went with Nancy Roth, Lynn and Maurice for a great tea at Chado's next to the Japanese American Museum.... In short, the company was fab, as was the teahouse itself, but the foor was great, the tea was great ONCE it arrived... a full hour later... the service was the pits, really.... rating Ambience/5;food 4; service-10! ///
By the way today was the most beautiful Day of California weather!!! The realson people come here to vacation and to live!!! BTW if you are coming to live here DON'T! Move to one os the smaller communities such as Burbank, Pasadena, Arcadia, Etc! The LA government is fraught with corruption and outrageous taxes, as is the state of California!!! AND the rough winds really suck, too as does the occasional earthquake!!!
Happy to tell fans of Bassist Charlie domingo that he will be performing with SFCJLA at our next concert on the 14 Feb [look at our above schedule ] Nate Light is still at this point in the group, but cannot give up his Tuesday gig to be with me, so it is Charlie... A gresat bassist too!
Horrendous night of really BAD Santa Ana winds ! Gusting to 85 MPH! Ick... It's so bad I am afraid to go out to the Kennel to feed Old Ursa! Afraid I'll be hit with something!!! And I don't have one of my Riding helmets from the barn!!! There is a continuous howl!!! BTW tomorrow is D's 64th!!! Really sad the havoc booze wreaks on the people surrounding an alcoholic! Disgusting!
SANTA ANA WINDS FINALLY DIE DOWN in Turkeyville
Finally Finally finally the "Devil Winds" died down t 6:45 AM PSsssssT !!! OMG what a drag all night Soaring winds of up to 80MPH!!! Then it was really wierd.... from about 4:30 AM it started to calm down as if some great being was turning down the volume of winds in increments Loke turning down a radio dial!!! It is relatively calm at 7:07 and is safe to go into the driveway to get things from the car, AND safe to feed the Elder Dog, ChowX "Urse Major and Sometimes Minor" So she had a great breakfast of warmed Trader Joe's dogfood, with big tablets of Glucosomine and Chondriotn-MSM, And, of course her daily Pet Tabs,,,,, [and for unbelievers, yes they work!!! Do now at 7 something I also have walked little Piccolino, given his little Royal sSelf his meds and nice pats and smoothtalk, and I will hit the hay for a few hours, before going to the Barn to do THOSE chores!! And not forget to take my shoe polish in case I go to the little new French Bakery for a "RedEye" And a special treat for the Alchie!!! [Like rehab?

See the Military training with Police "for near future urban warfare" [Channel 9 LA.Ca.
http://patdollard.com/2012/01/election-2012-military-begins-training-for-domestic-urban-warfare-anticipated-in-the-near-future/
~~~LOS ANGELES TV(CBS) — The Los Angeles Police Department teamed with military special operation forces Wednesday evening to conduct multi-agency tactical exercises in the skies above downtown LA.
Many questioned what was going on Wednesday night as a Black Hawk helicopter and four OH-6 choppers – or “Little Birds” – flew over the city, at one point hovering just above the US Bank building downtown and later flying low over the Staples Center as the Lakers played inside.
Someone could be seen sitting inside an open chopper with his legs hanging off the side.
Sky9 spotted the Black Hawk in the dark, making what appeared to be a drop off at a park before quickly ascending back into the air.
Throughout the exercise, the five rotorcrafts were staged at Dodgers Stadium.
The LAPD said the purpose of the training was in part to ensure the military’s ability to operate in urban environments.
Military trains in LA with LA police for a mission in the near future Channel 9 TV! Possibly unrest in the 2012 elections
Chief Warrant Officer David Duran was a U.S. Army aviator for 12 years. He now flies Blackhawk helicopters for the National Guard in California. Duran says what KCAL9 saw Wednesday night could be a dry run for a future mission.
“They do a lot of mockup training,” said Duran. “But it’s always best to get the closest terrain layout to what the objective is.”
Duran said the military chooses training environments based on what they might be facing in the near future.
“If it’s a mountainous terrain, they go to the mountains; if it’s a desert terrain, they use the desert; if they’re in a coastal terrain, they use the coast,” said Duran. “If it’s an urban terrain, you know, whatever’s needed.”
In a release Monday, the LAPD said training exercises would take place at various sites around the greater Los Angeles area through Thursday. The exercises were coordinated with local authorities and owners of the training sites, according to the release.
Many wondered Thursday night about the safety of such drastic maneuvers being conducted over an urban area.
The LAPD said safety precautions were taken to prevent risk to the general public, as well as the military personnel involved.
Similar exercises have been seen in Miami and Boston.
The Burning Platform:
Rob Richardson of Off Grid Survival shares our sentiment. Something just doesn’t feel right:
Maybe it’s just the prepper in me, but when I heard the U.S. Military will be conducting a massive training exercise in the streets of Los Angeles I must say it made me feel a little uneasy. And how could it not?
With the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, which gives the President the power to arrest and detain American Citizens, it makes one wonder why the military is conducting drills in Urban America.
This Thursday the military will be conducting a joint exercise in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles. The joint exercise will have the Los Angeles Police Department providing situational support and will take place at multiple simulated training locations throughout Los Angeles.
We could always chalk this off to standard military training, but we suggest that these soldiers are being trained to deal specifically with scenarios recently outlined by the Pentagon, including civil unrest right here in the good old USA.
Tonight is better!!!Piccolino is better, and the Devil Winds are calm tonight! fine will be able to sleep, except the George Noory show is discussing illegal imprisonments! [ the new law that allows you to be arrested and put away forever without just cause!!! Oh well, let them duke it out, no one gives a hoot what I think anyway! Bill of rights out the window!
WASHINGTON -- The Senate voted Tuesday to keep a controversial provision to let the military detain terrorism suspects on U.S. soil and hold them indefinitely without trial -- prompting White House officials to reissue a veto threat.
The measure, part of the massive National Defense Authorization Act, was also opposed by civil libertarians on the left and right. But 16 Democrats and an independent joined with Republicans to defeat an amendment by Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) that would have killed the provision, voting it down with 61 against, and 37 for it.
"I'm very, very, concerned about having U.S. citizens sent to Guantanamo Bay for indefinite detention," said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), one of the Senate's most conservative members.
Paul's top complaint is that a terrorism suspect would get just one hearing where the military could assert that the person is a suspected terrorist -- and then they could be locked up for life, without ever formally being charged. The only safety valve is a waiver from the secretary of defense.
"It's not enough just to be alleged to be a terrorist," Paul said, echoing the views of the American Civil Liberties Union. "That's part of what due process is -- deciding, are you a terrorist? I think it's important that we not allow U.S. citizens to be taken."
Democrats who were also concerned about liberties compared the military policing of Americans to the detention of Americans in internment camps during World War II.
"Congress is essentially authorizing the indefinite imprisonment of American citizens, without charge," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who offered another amendment -- which has not yet gotten a vote -- that she said would correct the problem. "We are not a nation that locks up its citizens without charge."
Backers of military detention of Americans -- a measure crafted by Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) -- came out swinging against Udall's amendment on the Senate floor earlier Tuesday.
"The enemy is all over the world. Here at home. And when people take up arms against the United States and [are] captured within the United States, why should we not be able to use our military and intelligence community to question that person as to what they know about enemy activity?" Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said.
"They should not be read their Miranda Rights. They should not be given a lawyer," Graham said. "They should be held humanely in military custody and interrogated about why they joined al Qaeda and what they were going to do to all of us."
In criticizing the measure, White House officials said that it would cause confusion and interfere with
Suezenne Fordham Erin have you heard about "Bud Noper" which is a poison [from Monsanto] thet put on potato eyes to keep them from budding in the market.... That poison gradually goes throughout the whole potato. And of course we cannot cut up a potato and plant the eyes to grow food.... Organic Potatos dont have this poison put on their producys... Also "Round Up is another deadly product!!! Its used extensively by big agra, and is poisoning the rivers waterways, ponds, lakes !!! BARF
Suezenne Fordham@@@
They want to control our food!!! Think of the people starving in Venezuela! And they really want to outlaw Farmers Markets and Organic food, as those foods can produce viable seeds Which can be grown just as organic potato eyes can produce plants with viable potatos!!! If you buy seed in a nursery, they are programmed to only produce one scant crop, the seeds from those plants will NOT reproduce [ the seeds of the first planting
To be delivered to: President Barack Obama
President Obama, I oppose your appointment of Michael Taylor, a former VP and Lobbyist for Monsanto, the widely criticized Genetically Modified (GM) food multinational, as Senior Advisor to the Commissioner at the FDA. Taylor is the same person who was Food Safety Czar at the FDA when Genetically Modified Organisms were allowed into the US food supply without undergoing a single test to determine their safety or risks. This is a travesty. Taylor was in charge of policy for Monsanto's now-discredited GM Bovine Growth Hormone (rGBH) which is directly linked to cancer and opposed by many medical and hospital organizations. It was Michael Taylor who pursued a policy that milk from rGBH-treated cows should not be labeled with disclosures. Michael Taylor and Monsanto do not belong in our government.
President Obama, Monsanto has been seen as a foe to family-based agriculture, the backbone of America, by introducing dangerous changes to plants and animals and by using strong-arm legal tactics against farmers for decades. Naturally occurring plant and animal species are permanently threatened by the introduction of DNA and hormonal modification, Monsanto's core businesses.
FDA scientists once regarded Genetic Modification of the food supply as the single most radical and potentially dangerous threat to public health in history. As early as the 1991-2, a body of scientific research began to form which now includes articles in over 600 journals. As a whole, these offer scientific evidence that GM foods are the root cause for the increase of many serious diseases in the US. Since GM foods were introduced, diagnosis of multiple chronic illnesses in the US has skyrocketed. These illnesses include changes in major organs, hormonal, immune, digestive, and reproductive systems. Certain cancers are linked with GM consumption.
Experts are discouraged that regulators and GM companies systematically overlook potential side effects of GM. Monsanto's objective to use bio-technology to change the world's food supply is the opposite policy direction your administration should pursue. Your legacy of supporting Monsanto to have free rein in US food policy is a nightmare scenario that is against the interest of all Americans and world citizens.
THOUGHTS FOR A MILITARY DOG
More than a thought.... "Thanks for you as a loving brave species and devoted companion to those you love, and thank you for laying down your very life when ordered to dearch a mined area, or taking the bullets, so it is safer for your Soldier, so that he may defend our freedom... you lay down your life... you are everything the word Dog represents, and we know that'Dog' apelled backwards is God"Yes, you are in my prayers and thoughts, too.... Godspeed, and I also pray your human will bring you back to the USA with him so you may enjoy a Forever Home and beautiful sun filled walks and romps with your human. And when he chooses a wife, that she too will love accept and treasure you, because without you, your human may not be returning from the war, God Bless you both, and a government that makes it possible for you to return to the USA with your beloved human..."
TUNNING NEWS!!! fro John Boener!
from John Boehner
Tonight, the House voted to freeze the pay of federal bureaucrats and Members of Congress. This legislation, sponsored by my friend Rep. Sean Duffy, will save struggling taxpayers $26 billion without impacting military personnel or their families.
@@@ HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STAN GETZ!!!
Stanley Gayetzky was born on February 2, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in the Bronx in New York City. Stan’s parents were Ukrainian Jews emigrating in 1903 and Stan grew up relatively poor. His mother pushed him to work his hardest and he had an interest in all instruments from an early age in addition to being at the top of the class. Getz received an alto saxophone from his father at the age of thirteen and by the time he was fifteen was hired to play professionally with Jack Teagarden’s band in 1943. Before Stan was even twenty he had played with Teagarden, Nat King Cole, Lionel Hampton, Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Woody Herman. Getz had a hit in 1950 with Woody Herman’s band and his solo on ‘Early Autumn’ made him a star.
In 1953 the Dizzy Gillespie/Stan Getz Quartet was formed with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown and Max Roach. In the late 1950s Stan ventured into cool jazz playing with Horace Silver, Johnny Smith, Oscar Peterson and others in Scandinavia. Getz returned to America and began introducing bossa nova jazz to the country. Stan recorded ‘Jazz Samba’ in 1962 and won a Grammy for Best Jazz Performance the following year for the tune Desafinado. Getz then recorded the album ‘Getz/Gilberto’ with Tom Jobin, Joao Gilberto and his wife Astrud Gilberto. The album won two Grammys for Best Album and Best Single beating out the Beatles’ ‘A Hard Days Night’. In the 1970s Getz entered the fusion movement and recorded with Chick Corea, Tony Williams and Stanley Clarke. Without Getz this band would go on to become Return To Forever. Getz returned to bossa nova and straight ahead jazz and would continue through that medium till the end.
In the 1980s, in addition to performing with the likes of Kenny Baron and touring India, Australia and Europe, Stan taught at Stanford University where he served as Artist in Residence. In 1986 Getz was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame. Getz recorded his last album in Copenhagen in February of 1991 entitled ‘People Time’ and passed away in June of that year at age sixty four. Stan Getz leaves a legacy as one of the greatest jazz musicians ever as his nickname would suggest, known simply as ‘The Sound’. Getz has received many honors and tributes and continues to influence future generations of musicians.
“A good quartet is like a good conversation among friends interacting to each other's ideas.”
“Life is too full of distractions nowadays. When I was a kid we had a little Emerson radio and that was it. We were more dedicated. We didn't have a choice.”
“We made records to document ourselves, not to sell a lot of records. I still feel that way. I put out a record because I think it's beautiful, not necessarily commercial.”
"It's like a language. You learn the alphabet, which are the scales. You learn the sentences, which are the chords, and then you talk extemporaneously with the horn. It's a wonderful thing to be able to speak extemporaneously, which is something I've never gotten the hang of. But musically, I love to talk off the top of my head. And that's what jazz music is all about." – Stan Getz
I LOVE the Marines from when I was a little girl and the US was facing WWII OMG were we scared as a Nation, and they played hitler's horrifying speeches [ in german] and the way he shouted and threatened. on radioo, then to see him on the news in the movie theaters as we were going to see Jane Withers or Andy Rooney!!! Then to read the astounding bravery as the war heated up! And as kids saving and collecting scrap metal, even peeling the metal off of cigarette wrapers from our parents!!! Brave Brave Men And so were all our military.... So ARE all our Brave Millitary to give everything for our freedom! Thany you!
RUE STORY; Seeing Billies Carnegie Hall Concert Poster reminded me of this!!!
I was aat Billie's last concert She was going to have this concert after rehab.... I was with her and my Prress Agent Roz Mincer from Mike hall's Office. WE sat and sat and Billie didnt come onstage, her band was waiting, and still no Billie Finally the conductor , Val Greene, trombonist went backatage... Roz shot out of her seat to go backstage, and then Val kead Billie onstage.... Billie was obviously shot up with drugs, staggered to the microphone, the Band played the intro and Billie couldnt remember the words to the tune, OR the tune Roz went onstage, took Billie by the arm, led her off... that was the end.... they had to refund the entire audience's ticket money!!! A pusher had gotten to her and turned her on.... she was taken to the hospital, where she died of an overdose IN the hospital a couple of weeks later ... True story, I was there!!!
To McGuffee Kathey
Alexis Weissenberg in an interview had this to say about his unemotional stage demeanor: “You cannot lose your control physically and be precise as to what your hands do. Can you imagine a surgeon operating on somebody, and swooning and looking up at the ceiling and being very excited about it? The patient would die. That is what happens in music too. The patient dies, because there’s too much going on besides the actual performance.” Perhaps that explain why I can't watch (or listen to) Lang Lang, Olli Mustonen, or Andre Watts.
I HATE to be forced to watch LL! the Steinway Company invited me to a private concert of LL a couple years ago... Politically i really HAD to go, but when there I could not watch his gyraations[ remembering my illustrious Steinway Artist friends and teachers in NY] I just kept my earplugs in and my eyes cast down... Oh yeah... and they served store bought cookies and pepsi cola[loaded with high fructose corn syrup]n and potato chips, totally appropriat efor the "artiste"Barf!!! And later that day, he packed the Hollywood Bowl with 13,000 + hapless souls!
Miss Otis Regrets
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today, Madam.
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today.
She is sorry to be delayed,
But last evening down in Lover's Lane she strayed.
Madam.
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today.
When she woke up and found, that her dream of love was gone.
Madam.
She ran to the man who had lead her so far astray.
And from under a velvet gown,
She drew a gun and shot her lover down,
Madam.
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today.
When the mob came and got her and dragged her from the jail,
Madam,
They strung her from the old willow cross the way.
And the moment before she died,
She lifted up her lovely head and cried,
Madam.
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today.
Miss Otis regrets... she's unable to
You're so late getting home from the office Did you miss your train? Were you caught in the rain? No, don't bother to explain Can I fix you a quick martini? As a matter of fact I'll have one with you For to tell you the truth I've had quite a day too Guess who I saw today, my dear? I went in town to shop around for something new And thought I'd stop and have a bite When I was through I looked around for someplace near And it occurred to me where I had parked the car There was a most attractive French cafe and bar It really wasn't very far The waiter showed me to a dark, secluded corner And as my eyes became accustomed to the gloom I saw two people at the bar who were so in love That even I could spot it clear across the room Guess who I saw today, my dear? I've never been so shocked before I headed blindly for the door They didn't see me passing through Guess who I saw today? Guess who I saw today? Guess who I saw today? I saw you!
A Lot can be done with this song!!!
Dear Suezenne,
As you may remember, a few weeks ago pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk hired Food Network star Paula Deen to be their spokesperson. She’s promoting Victoza, their daily injectable drug marketed to help improve blood sugar levels in adults with diabetes. There’s so much wrong with this picture that it’s hard to know where to begin.
Deen actually developed type 2 diabetes three years ago, but she kept it under wraps as she continued to show viewers how to cook dishes swimming in butter and cream. Her deep fryer is her “kitchen essential” and few, if any, of her dishes should be eaten by someone with diabetes—or anyone for that matter.
As I mentioned on my blog, this is a new low even for Big Pharma. By using Deen as their spokesperson for their diabetes drug, Novo Nordisk is sending the message that you can eat as much junk as you want and then “fix” your health problems with a drug. While I addressed this a bit in my blog, the issue is so critical that I want to equip you with all the facts.
Drugs don’t cure diabetes, and can make the condition worse—far worse!
The first thing most doctors do when a patient develops high blood sugar is to whip out their prescription pad and write a prescription for a hypoglycemic (blood glucose-lowering) agent. But while these drugs may temporarily lower blood sugar, they do nothing to address the underlying condition.
The other mistake many doctors make is treating obese type 2 diabetes patients with insulin. Insulin is a lifesaver for people with type 1 diabetes who can’t produce insulin naturally. But when given to obese individuals with type 2 diabetes, insulin actually makes matters worse—by causing more weight gain, which makes it even harder to manage blood sugar.
Type 2 diabetes occurs when your body’s cells become resistant to insulin—usually as a result of being overweight. Type 2 diabetes is not an insulin deficiency. In folks with type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is actually already working overtime, producing two or three times the amount of insulin normally needed, but their cells are unable to use it. Since insulin is a fat-storage hormone, throwing more insulin into the mix only causes additional weight gain, which makes insulin resistance worse and blood sugar control virtually impossible.
This vicious cycle is so predictable that when I talk to heavy diabetics who are on insulin, I don’t ask them if they’ve gained weight—I ask them how much they’ve gained.
Here’s a far better way to treat—and reverse—type 2 diabetes
DR< Whittaker, con't—their type 2 diabetes. Here’s our four-step approach to treating diabetes:
1. We stop all oral diabetes drugs and insulin for obese individuals—practically the second a patient walks in the door. Instead, we put our patients on a program called the Mini-Fast with Exercise. Rather than ballooning up like the Michelin Man—which is the inevitable fate of insulin-treated type 2 diabetics—our patients universally lose weight. We’ve had men and women arrive at our doors carrying up to 100 pounds of insulin-induced excess weight, only to watch it melt away when the insulin was replaced with a natural program to control both their weight and blood sugar.
2. We give our patients supplements to help lower their blood sugar, including: chromium (200 mcg), vanadyl sulfate (100 mg), Gymnema sylvestre (400 mg), and purslane extract (180 mg).
Plus, there’s a new up-and-comer I’m very excited about called berberine that has been found to lower blood sugar as well as metformin (Glucophage), the world’s most popular diabetes drug. The suggested dose is 500 mg three times a day. Berberine is sold in health food stores and online, or it can be ordered by calling (800) 810-6655. I’m also working on an additional source for a berberine supplement of my own, so stay tuned.
3. Every table in our dining room is equipped with apple cider vinegar. When taken with or just before meals, vinegar inhibits the enzymes necessary for the digestion of starches and other complex carbohydrates, thus preventing them from being broken down into glucose and absorbed into the bloodstream. Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with lunch and dinner.
Because vinegar is quite acidic, it should always be diluted. Add a little olive oil and seasonings and use it as a salad dressing. Or mix it in water, along with a healthy sweetener like xylitol or stevia—which dramatically improves the taste—and sip it slowly.
4. It’s also critical to replenish the nutrients that are flushed out of the body when you’re in a diabetic state. This is particularly true of the water-soluble vitamins like vitamin C and the B vitamins, which, coincidentally, are some of the same ones that diabetes drugs are notorious for depleting. That’s why every patient who walks through the clinic door is put on my Forward Plus Daily Regimen® multi-nutrient formula.
This approach to treating diabetes isn’t an overnight cure, and it doesn’t come with a celebrity spokesperson. It takes time and requires effort. But I can tell you from decades of helping thousands of patients that it works.
I remember one patient we had who came to the clinic with an alarmingly high blood sugar level of 525 (normal is less than 100)—but after following this plan for 6 months she was considered a non-diabetic. I don’t know of a single diabetes medication that can claim results like that.
To your health,
Dr. Whitaker
1 Work on one thing at a time until finished.
My profound personal tragedy made it impossible to really do my players justice.... The one concert we did play was ill attended, due to my really not being able to concentrate on getting the WORD out] and the cohesion in the group was non existent.... I have been treating myself well, and practicing WHAT and when at my discretion...If I feel like playing rachmaninov, I will, If it is Chopin, or Beethoven I will ... I am using the Great classical repertoire to retain and grow my tecnic.... Do I sound like Bill? No, but the hands are regaining their tecnic and Depth of thought ... I plan to resume Concerts with my Trio or Quartet in October or November in a venue I have not chosen... I amhoping my Drummer will be Mike Senzaki, and that my Bassist will be Nate Light! Havn't called them yet, so we'll see! This time has been very difficult for me... but I realise I have to gather strength!!! Hold your positive thoughts that the Spirit will flow as easily as it once did!
A GREAT NOTE for today, August 18th 2012... Reflections on the new place for my horses at "Rancho Tujunga" nestled in the Tujunga Wash between really beautiful mountains very tall ans craggy!
Spent some quiet time at the new Ranch where I now keep my horses!!! It is Mountain quiet!!!! NO FWY noise!!! very hard to take [ I have Tinnitus, and silence roars! The girls have fag difficulty as they were at the other Barn for 20 years!!! It has been very difficult for them!!! but the Mountains are very tall and beautiful and there are maybe a hundred huge sycamore trees.... providing deep sha
de ... It will be a great place to sketch and space out!
The owner is polite, and all in all, it will be fine... The other place looks awful by compaarison... the new owners have really let it slide into the toilet!
I am already spoiled at the new place they feed threeX a day, and Muck 2 X a day!!! HUGE Where-as I don't have to scrub buckets and make trips to feed!!! Really good! plenty of space! Ellie came today to start getting the girls acquainted with their place! They were freaking after being at the other place for 20 years!!! [ a huge slice of my life!
Will keep you posted! PTL!
What to do? Know WTF you're +really voting for! and get rid of slackers in congress and the house...Demand that they have to pass drug and alcohol tests before they get their salaries and they have to pass written exams before they are allowed to vote on bills to prove they understand what they are voting for1 [ Nancy Pelosi quote " We have to pass this bill so we can find out whet's in it"
This is hilarious if it isn't so tragic! ! And NO, I am NOT a repub.... but "Non Partisan" Tis whole corruption thing is sickening. Clean House and when they need to be voted out next time, get out and vote them out til the water runs clean!
AND don't fall for the bit they are trying to pull.... like dividing us and spreading hatred1 We need to demand people are responsible and not allow the "open border" mess that is happening on our southern borders!
And btw we in LA are totally broke trying to maintain the
welfare state.... We build state of the art schools and 75% dont even grace the taxpayer with bothering to graduate1 75% don't!
BTW do you know who the richest person in the world is? The Queen Mother of England! And she and the Rothchilds own most of the US!
And have you seen the signs in our scenic areas that are now property of the UN? [ take a ride up the
Mojave Desert ans Sierras!]
A 65 mile strip of parkland is designated NO tourists as it is now occupied by drug cartels!
We are the taxpayers we have to be strong and demand that this and a lot if other stuff is all rectified, and that the constitution is adhered to !!!
Hooray!!1 lost 1 lb of the 4 I had put on with the use of insulin!!! My endroconologist pit me onn Glucophage last week and that stuff really works!!! And way less expensive that Ceylon Cinneman!!! [on Amazon] going to tell the radiologist all the suppliments that are recommended for this procedure.... There is a canadian protocal that they double up omn radiarion and it halves the time it takes.... I want the experience of the full procedure... I'm not in a hurry
Most of the securing tabs holding the wound together have fallen off except the one in my armpit thay was a sentinal node [ It was negative=no cancer
Tomorrow I will do something really fun in the glorious Ca Sunshine Got a really good call from Mo late this afternoon as he and Lynn were out Dog-Walking!!! My Opthamologist said it would be possible to do my cataracts while I am undergoing radiation, and that it may help with the glaucoma pressure in my left eye, hough I am on Travatan!!! Stay tuned!!! Just remember sometimes we have to repair our vintage cars if we want them to keep rumming!!! Hugs and TY for all your Prayers and positivity!!! God Bless us ALL!!!
oTay today was the appointment with my Radiologist!!! Not at UCLA... but nearer to where I live... at Glendale Adventist Cancer center... she will give me 5 minutes of Radiation to the area where the tumor was.... essentially irradiating the whole left Breast[ considerably smaller after Dr. Chang's excellent surgery... the radiation will go on for 6 1/2 weeks 5 days a week ... she will check me frequently for burning of the skin... she is an excellent Radiologist and encouraging and I agree that this is my best chance at life along with the 5 years of pills [ NOT Tamoxathin which gives blood clots in many instances] And so tomorrow I have an appointment with them the forst of tree preliminary tests, then we begin the irradiation of me a week from next Monday!!! Yes I believe in alt stuff... but when you ur life dangles, you get down to taking care of business, as Maurice puts it!!!Thank you for your White Light, Don... and your Love, Yves.... When you are in town lets have lunch if you can stand bopping around in one of my '72 VW Bugs!!! Lots of fun!
Cant believe tomorrow ends the fitst week and a half of Radiation treatments for my post surgery Breast Cancer.... At the beginning of last week, days 1/2 and 3 were spent with the Radiologist and her team carecully measurung everything and getting me over my terror of the huge maching and her souncs... Her name is "Agatha" because she always gets the bad guys... So the test run was last Wednesday, and we began in ernest... The team was caring and understanding and gradually my fears subsided and last Thursday and Friday went smoothly... then Sat and sunday off and Monday through today just flew by and I am at ease and after each treatment The oncol nurse and staff told me to use "Aquafor" a moistening cream so the skin will be more comfortable from the radiation.... I was already starting to itch... It is really fine that I go closer to where I live for treatmaant.... I drive there mysrlf and this gives me a sense of control... and I find that prayer is very comforting when faced with Agatha and her scary sounds!!! I so much comforted byt the team and joking with them,,, anf after this week there will be 5 more weeks... I have not had reactions yet... so am thankful!!!Keep your fingers Xed!!! XXXsThank you all my friends, and special prayers to those suffering from the Flu and all ailments!!!
Still with trepidition I know the 1st year anniversary of my Brilliant Architect Husband, Daumants us quickly approaching... He did this selfish and horrid thing on Valentine's Eve!!! Really ghastly!!
I'm still on cloud 9 from the great performance of the LACO tonight with Their conductor -Pianist Jeffrey Kahane!!! He lectured dissected and then Starred as Soloist in the Beethoven 4th Piano Concerto!!!I Loved his performence even more than the one with Dame Myra Hess and the NY Phil at Carnegie Hahh in the early 50's!!!BTW Myra used Music and the Concert Artists were all abuzz and indignant the next day!!!!
OK the Weekend..."free from the Radiation treatment and the greasy Aquaphor... but missing the other patients and the staff.... listening to some coolJazz on KJazz LA!! Hearing friends who have passed!!! Icons... Thinking about it I never thought-realised that guys like Cal Tjader, Teddy Charles, Milt Jackson< Bill Evans,George Shearing,Billy Taylor, Great Iconic musicians and in my clique... and Gerry Mulligan whom I tried my level best to save froom his Junk habuts... spending heaps of money on great food I'd cook for him to keep him healthy.... He eventually married a countess ... he was totally addicted to glam Hollywood types.... and she was able to kind of straighten him out sort of, before he goe a leg infection and died of it.... He was a boozer,too... but hat a great Baariton Player.... Never thought he'd go.... or any of tthem... they had too much talent to just kakaway...Oh well, he spent a few years studying Piano tecnic with me.... he had a "Pianoless Quartrt, but it really wasn't as he would always wend his way to a piano and play a few stumbling choruses on piano.... If he didnt like the music on my Steinway, he'd pick it up and teaar it into small pieces!!!o, he didnt pay me for the stuff he destroyed....Milt Jackson AKA Bags] also studied Piano tecnic with me??? ....In Italy he was famous not only as a vibes player, but as a piano playing singer!!! Hahah! Betcha you didn't know that about him....And did you know he loved to present friends with fresh Peach Cobbler he made? Still warm from his kitchen in his multimillion $$$ 2 story home in Scarsdale, NY... a VERY fancy area..... but he constantly whoned about being discriminated against, yet he was at the top!!! We had many heated public arguments about who was more discriminated against... Him or ME... a white chick making a living as a
AGATHA HAS MAJOR BREAKDOWN..The beloved Radiation Machin o important to our Cancer revoveries has had a total breakdown....She is the Radiation machine delivering to hughly specific sites of potential microscopic mastases sites sighed her last sigh and will undergo vast highly tecnical renovations to recover her former prowess in the destruction of cancer...Her reconstruction will take at least a week, and in the meantime the patients undergoing therapy will go th another hospital to use their radiation facilities.... hoping for the same positive results... and remain full of hope optimism and trust...AGATHA is nick named for thte skilled British Detective who always gets the bad guys.... a very approproate name for an entity who eradicates cancer at the mo;ecular level... Bless you, AGATHA And Dr. Sara
Kim!!!
Everyone prayers for Agatha's recovery or the location of the new Radiology machine!!!
My Radiologist said she will keep me posted tomorrow!!!She is a great Radioligist....[ I HOPE] hahah!!! what an adventure!!!
A totally great Easter!!! Maurice and Lynn took me for brunch at a new Hollywood seafood place " The Hungry Cat" They were rushing between gigs, but we had time to enjoy some really fine unusual seafood!!! /kinda depressed today... Tomorrow is my last radiation treatment.... being hauled over to a sister hospital as the Radiation machine at Glendale Advantist broke down last week, but they provided a comfortable Shuttle van and fine Chauffeur to tale the group of 7 to the Sister Hospital with a similar machine..Varnis Acceleratot Clinnic #???? so many ID #s... But tomorrow is my last day... I am sad over saying goodbye to these people, as we all have the same problem.... but I am loaded with the right amount of Radiation to fight mt cancer and get back to life in Music, and with my Trio or Quartet!!! These have been tense times but I know I have had great advice and I trust the people who are tending to me, and The support from people has been heart rending...So hopefully... life will go on, and I am Thankful for every bit of help, and Dr's genius, and His help in getting me through this.... so far.... I know I have frightened some friends and they really don't want to bother with me any more.... but there are others to lean a bit on! I am still the same person I was just slightly altered... And those who can see that will remain my friend... and if I lose a friend .... so what? The longer we know someone the closer we are to really knowing them!!!I thank God for my Son and Daughter in law, and all my friends and Volpino Assn people who sent prayers and all the other prayers, and thank Him for answering my prayers about getting through the "Treatment" W--O--W!!! What a great experience!!!
Yes... True today was my last Radiation Treatment.... 36 in allAftr the treatment at our sister Hospital [ Agathais still under repair] Lynn and her Assistant came into our waiting aresa singing silly songs and bringing to me my signed Document saying I had completed my Radiation Series, and a gift of a beautiful Key ring declaring me a Breast Cancer survivor.... All this bringing tears to my eyes.... I was the only one "graduating today..... I felt very down..... I really became atached to the staff tthere and the other Cancer fighters.... I was happy to complete this task of survival... but I will miss the Medical Attention, and the company of others who are in the same battle...But we all went from entering the reception area tand just stateing at the walls to being ab very friendly and gregarious group.... filled with optimisn and hope and really being encouraging to each other... Many jokes were told and many silly pranks in the Radiation Room..
it really for me was a very profound experience.... and I have shed many tears today and this evening over this hols thing...It was sad to say goodbye and to thank the great Limo Driver who got us speedily and safely from hospital to hospital.... And out Oncological Nurse who accompanied us and who was so concerned when she read my pulse was 34.... and she wanted to send me to the ER.... [no I didnt go} I think it was low potassium....Mixed feelings.... Oh well I see my Radiologist again in 6 weeks then again in 6 months to make sure the shin is healing Right now I look as if I've visited a totoo parlor for some serious Tatoos!!! Gross...
It actually looks like aurreal Art, I think....Now to get my Bone Density thing done and see my Med Oncologist to start my Vitamin D3, AND the 5year regimen of pills. Will try and sleep... Been giving Thanks and Blessings to all who have prayed and helped.... Bless you ALL!!! Tears...
So today I took myself to Bloomies for lunch.... Had the usual.... half Tuna on WW bread and Bowl of soup.... good Mushroom and Barley and hot cup of coffee.... Then back home really lonely... missing the other routine.... Made appt for the Bone Density scan soon... This evening hanging out with my dawgs... and practicing and listening to KUSC Classical Music and a bit of talk radio!!! Mike Mitacek, my Equal Interval Composition Professor called me after a couple of years... totally knocked me out... He's getting a group together for further studies ould I be interested??? Heck yes!!! On and way great!!!
So finally it seems I can keep my "Bone Density Scan Appointment at UCLA in Santa Monica [ their Osteo campus} I understand it will take about a half hour and no radiation to speak of... Then off to my fave Santa Monica Fish place for lunch... then the long drive back.... But I get to see and smell the ocean ... and pray the little N Korean Dictator can keep his fingers off the Nuke trigger.... really a scary thing... even scarier that O isnt rattling some sabers, too...How stupid people are always loving wars... while people starve all over including here... So, Pray, Everyone.... And have a meeting place to get back to your families... and put in some supplies.... The cab thing is to be hit with a nuke exploded in the atmosphere...knocking out our entire power grid for years.... WAKE UP everyone!!!
Todat was a good day to get a salad and sandwich from Sprouts.... really good quality and good prices!!!
Two more weeks then I start the 5 years of Pills, including D3... to rebuild my bones after the destruction the radiation has presumably done.... The Oncologist will also know tomorrow whether or not I can ride [ horses] due to my bones being too fragile... Amazing to go through all of this... really a fantastic experience!!!.... BTW My mentor and Professor of the Equal Intervan system of composition called me today, inviting me to join his new class ... A new foorm of Composition and of course I said YES!!! MX Mitacek.... a genius.... Love Brilliant people!!!
OK here I am in the middle of the night and suddenly I understood why the dangling twigs from the Chinese elm dragged through my haid as I walked past it...so I go out to check it and sure enough it is slowly collapsing tp the sideand when it is finished it will take out the doghouse designed to look like Frank LLoyd Wright!! AND part of the fence surrounding the yard!!! Darn.... just what I need another Huge Bill!!!
OK... here is a phenom!!! When there is a natural catastrophe in my yard... for instance My huge Chinese Elm developed aa faatal crack running vertically up the Trune.... the hummingbirds become very alarmed and land on my shoulders briefly and im a very distressed manner fly very close to the trees dangling twigs as if to share it's agony... This happenned when that tree split in the other side... but sittib=ng a distance from the ree I noticed this empaathy between the tree and the two hummies... and when I approached the tree with the trunk split and at about 3:00 position they both buzzed me and landed on my shoulder excitedly for a few second then flew back to the distressed tree... the tree man comes tomorrow... tyhere is no way to save the tree, alas.... This hurts.... she has been there since we moved in in 1973, and was huge then!!!
This is what Dr. Weil suggests:
"Bear in mind that medication isn't the only available approach for strengthening your bones. If you smoke, stop. Weight-bearing and strength-training exercises can help maintain bone mass. I recommend taking 500 to 700 mg of calcium citrate in two divided doses with meals, for a total daily intake of 1,000-1,200 mg from all sources, plus 2,000 IU vitamin D3 daily to promote calcium absorption. Cut back on your caffeine intake and soda consumption, and avoid excessive protein in your diet, all of which can promote calcium loss."
Have you considered the Gerson diet?
Great day today.... after fretting about the cancer pill I was invited to lunch with Anne Frankel, Extraordinary Show Jumoer Equestrienne wjo had a serious horse related accident in Feb..... I met het at her house and we weht to a really fun Italian restaurant, and had a really delicious lunch and shared a Tiramisu for desert!!!It was so good to get together with a lovely person and friend... Picked up my whole day and evening... I even brought part of my food home and had it for dinner!!
Thank you, Anne...I was honored
Suezenne Fordham Funny that before anyone was starting to figure it out everyone I knoe-knew felt something was terribly wrong but couldn't begin to unravel it!!! it felt as if the carpet was slowly being pulled from 'neath my feet.... My suicided husband felt that too, but he hid in alcohol and pain from physical disintegration... while I worried and threw myself into Jazz fusion Concerts... and got Breast Cancer... It's all so surreal~~~
One early morning after a great Party,I was a well known Pianist in NY,[ I was bringing my Beau at the time Saxist Gerry Mulligan And Actor Jason Robards Jr after eating escargot at an all night really hip restaurant... At one stop light I Looked in the rear view mirror of my VW Bug and Jason had a gun to my head... I freaked and he told me to "step on it" I did ... and after revving the car as fast as it would go, I looked in the rear view mirror at him again and he grinned evilly and put the gun to his mouth sideways and pulled the trigger and LIT HIS CIGARETTE!!! OMG!!!The gun was shaped like a small pistol.
Notes on Gregorian Chant:OVE authentic Gregorian Chant!!! Learned it since 1st grade beginning in "37!!! Above: Miserere nobis, Agnus Dei qui tolis pecata mundi Agnus Dei Qui tolis pecatamundi,dona nobis Pacem.... Oh I do Midd the REAL Gregorian hant!!! The recordings now are so wrong!!![ like using all voices except 1 with no vibrato, then having ove voice doing a vibrato as others sing W/O.... Vibrato in real GC could never be used as it was considered a devil's voice if there was any vibrato!!! Also NO harmony at all,,, that was also sacreligious till way later when harmony was limited to 4ths and 5ths
Suezenne Fordham Wont bother you with this stuff!!! BTW... I am NOT anti gun.... It was simply his choices!
Suezenne Fordham No... It was his way out He was alcoholic and fortified himself with a half botthe of a fine Bourbon I was going to use in Baked Beans!!! I am happy he didnt take me, too....Fortunately he left a lengthy note in an envelop on his computer... It took a while to actually see it And when the police read the note they stopped questioning me.... I thought he had fallen on a rake that caused the hole in his neck.... cant believe how naive I was... He hadnever taken that shotgun out of the bag even to clean it to my knowlledge!!!
Suezenne Fordham Duh,,,, I know nothing of guns.... I thought the night my husband offed himself that he used a can grabber to grab the trigger, as I saw a shadow on the ground from a small light.... Just came to realise that shadow was the reflection of the trigger on the ground caused by the litt outdoor light... The police kept telling me there was no can grabber out there.... but that shadow still haunts my memory!!!
OMG Its all hitting me today... Maurice went to NY a few days ago, and Lyn told me he went there to bury daumants D's ashes were at Mo's apartmany months as they couldnt find the right size urn that would fit in the Wall where his parents are buried... D didnt want this he just wanted to be scattered in places,,, but Mo, Lynn and I thought it would be better for him to be beside his parentsAt rota Latvian compound in Upstate Ny... And so it was that Maurice went to NY to see his Brothers , retrieve the ashes tthentake them upstate.... from what Lynn said... they had a candlelight ceremony, though it was raining And a couple of other people were there...AAnd it is hitting me about the whole of time that D and I were married...
